Christmas Songs day 19: I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

I heard this song on the radio this year and had to add it to the list.

Despite what youtube would have you believe, this is not Shirley Temple; it’s a little girl named Gayla Peevey, a child star from Ponca City, Oklahoma. I have no idea why she wants one, but apparently, the song became so popular she got one! Imagine that! She gave it to the local zoo, where it lived for 50 years.

    Hippos kill more people per year than tigers do… though some of that may be that there are more of them. A sanguinary child, perhaps?
