New Feature: The Endless Summer Project

In a series I rather enjoy called The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, there is a (much-hated due to the handling of the anime adaptation) plotline called Endless Eight. I don’t want to get into too much specifics, but basically, during the month of August, Haruhi drags her brigade along on a series of adventures based off a list she compiled of all the things people do to have fun in summer.

Her list is very Japanese, though it includes some universals:

  • Swimming at the pool
  • Wearing summer kimono
  • Attend the O-bon festival
  • Catch Cicadas
  • Get part-time jobs
  • Stargazing
  • Batting practice
  • Watch fireworks
  • Fishing
  • Test of Courage
  • See a movie
  • Swim in the ocean
  • Bowling
  • Karaoke
  • Bird watching

And she fit it all into two weeks!

We don’t have that kind of time on our hands, but Chaos, Kae, and I are in the process of concocting a similar list. In the next two months (July and August), we’re going to try and do as much of it as possible, and I’ll blog about the results. This will take the place of the tea reviews we were doing before.

Do you guys have any suggestions for us? What says summer to you? And does anyone have a good idea for a name for our group? Haruhi’s is the SOS Brigade.
